THE STATE OF KISII COUNTY DUMPSITE
The Kisii dumpsite is in a deplorable state, with poor waste management practices posing significant health and environmental risks. Located near residential and commercial areas, the site is overflowing with unsegregated waste, including plastics, organic matter, and hazardous materials. Inadequate infrastructure and the absence of a formal recycling system exacerbate the situation, leading to foul odors, water pollution, and the proliferation of disease-causing pests. Scavengers, including children, frequently interact with the waste , exposing themselves to infections and injuries.
Efforts to address the dumpsite’s challenges have been limited, despite growing public concern. The county government has struggled to implement effective waste management strategies due to financial constraints and lack of enforcement. Community initiatives such as clean-ups and recycling programs remain insufficient to tackle the scale of the problem. Without urgent intervention, the dumpsite will continue to jeopardize the health and well-being of Kisii residents while contributing to broader environmental degradation.
